Associate Director, Product Marketing

As an Associate Director – Product Marketing for Pet Owner Engagement you will be responsible for creating a compelling narrative for internal and external audiences about your product. You will be the expert on our customers, their customers, and the market overall. You will leverage those insights to develop product positioning, messaging and content that will set our product apart from the rest. You will partner with our product, sales, and customer success organizations to build the go-to-market plan and then you will execute that plan flawlessly. You will work closely with the product team to take customer and market insights to influence roadmaps.

This is a highly cross-functional, collaborative role that will move across our various software products and throughout the broader IDEXX team. You should be a master storyteller who can get internal and external teams excited about what we are building. Ideally, you thrive in a startup environment, but also have the polish and patience to navigate some inevitable corporate aspects to building inside of a large organization. This is a brand-new role and will be highly visible, bringing tremendous opportunity with challenge.

IDEXX Veterinary Software is the fastest growing part of IDEXX, with technology platforms that help veterinary practices run their businesses. If you are in the veterinary world, you know that IDEXX is a global leader in pet healthcare innovation – with diagnostic, software, and data solutions for practicing veterinarians around the world. If you live in Maine, you know that IDEXX is one of the largest employers in Maine with a reputation for being active in the community. But if you aren’t in the industry and you don’t live in Maine, you might not have heard of us, but once you know, you’ll be as excited as we are.

At IDEXX you can work on software that impacts millions of pets around the world. Where else can you have the stability of working as a global member of the S&P 500, improving the lives of pets, and getting to work on exciting new software with smart people who are genuinely nice? We are scientists, developers, product managers, strategists, marketers, and business development people that care about doing great work with great people.

Our software business is undergoing a transformation. We started out as a service for our diagnostic customers. IDEXX is very customer-centric, so if there is a way to add value to our customers, we will do it. But software has evolved from a piece of the story into its own story. We serve tens of thousands of practices around the world with software that helps vets manage their practice, interpret diagnostic results, refer patients to specialty hospitals, and communicate with millions of pet owners. We are quite literally at the center of the work veterinarians are doing every day.

Here’s how you’ll make an impact:

  • Product Messaging & Positioning:Develop differentiated product positioning and messaging strategy based on customer understanding, competitive intelligence, and market insights.
  • Voice of the Customer and Market:Be the expert on our customers and the competitive market, uncovering insights that lead to breakthrough messaging, accelerated service adoption & differentiated GTM tactics. Work with internal research teams to support insight gathering.
  • Sales Enablement:Support our sales channels by delivering clear and concise sales enablement tools & collateral (sell sheets, product toolkits, battle cards, etc.), providing insight & direction on what customers’ needs are.
  • GTM Planning & Execution:Ownership of entire go-to-market process for the POE platform, crafting clear & measurable GTM strategy, goals, and KPI’s.
  • Campaigns & Programs: Support the creation of customer acquisition and user engagement programs that drive customer satisfaction, loyalty and ultimately advocacy for IDEXX and its veterinary software solutions.
  • Content Development: Deliver a predictable calendar of product content, including articles, case studies, blog posts, webinars that can be used by teams for demand gen.
  • Path to Purchase: Map, measure, analyze and optimize the product’s buyer’s journey to provide an exceptional experience for our customers and augment key areas of sale enablement and training.
  • Collaborate and Manage Stakeholders: inspire and connect with cross-functional teams, both inside the software organization and across IDEXX.
  • Thought Leadership: Act as a thought leader for the platform internally & externally, including speaking engagements, webinars, and articles.

What you need to succeed:

  • 7+ years of experience in product marketing, ideally in SaaS organizations. Extra points for experience in both small business and corporate customers.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (i.e., Business, Communications, Marketing, Science, etc.); or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Experience in both B2B and B2C preferred, as there are elements of both to the product platform you will be supporting.
  • Appetite for a fast-moving collaborative environment. This role requires you to work across functions and departments and deliver on deadline.
  • Extensive experience in positioning and messaging, leading product launches, and creating content and collateral. Clear, demonstrated success in enabling sales teams to succeed.
  • Strong collaboration skills and team-oriented disposition with the ability to influence key stakeholders, foster collaboration, and drive results across cross-functional teams.
  • A willingness to roll up your sleeves and switch between strategy and tactical execution.
  • Self-starter with ability to manage a variety of large programs and deliverables at once.
  • Love of animals helps but is not required.
