Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Our Customer Marketing team is seeking an Advertising and Promotions Coordinator for a contract role who under the direction of the Senior Manager, Go-to-Market, will coordinate the development, planning and execution of marketing and promotional programs in support of Customer Marketing’s annual plan.
What will I be doing?
- Coordinating the planning, production, and delivery of marketing projects in support of Customer Marketing’s annual plan across all channels, including broadcast, print, social and digital, as well as, owned assets and events, while ensuring the marketing and promotional initiatives reflect brand objectives and are aligned with brand standards.
- Fostering positive customer relations through the effective distribution of informational, advertising and promotional material within GO Transit’s market area
- Integrating knowledge gained through relationships with stakeholders, cross functional teams and industry best practices into current and future marketing initiatives.
- Develops integrated marketing and advertising plans, with clear and measurable objectives, and coordinates the production and execution of plans, campaigns, and events to generate increased ridership and revenue as well as, to enhance brand reputation.
- Liaises/consults with cross-functional teams and advises on methods of communication, advertising, and event planning appropriate to marketing objectives, and targeted audience/stakeholder groups.
- Researches and prepares marketing briefs on resource/budget requirements, logistical arrangements/considerations and the acquisition of resources, materials, support and supplier services for successful advertising/promotion/event delivery. Plans and manages budgets for advertising/promotional projects/events.
- Conducts customer insights research, requesting additional market research from consulting agencies, if none exists, to build compelling marketing campaigns that connect with customers and change desired behaviours.
- Liaises with Customer Marketing’s creative agency and media buying agency in the planning, creation, delivery and monitoring of marketing campaigns.
- Collaborates with internal teams across Communications, Market Research, Customer Analytics, and Partnerships, among other groups, to gain buy-in or support on marketing initiatives and address feedback from those groups and distribution of informational marketing material for all channels.
- Provides consultation to Metrolinx business units on brand standards and guidelines for initiatives that impact the application of the brand. Implements the brand strategy across the organization, managing corporate brand reputation.
- Prepares/writes and/or coordinates high quality communication materials including web copy, social media copy, advertising copy, backgrounders, and feature articles, coordinating required approval.
- Consults with Metrolinx external partners (such as creative and multi-cultural advertising agencies, private partner organizations, community partners, outreach event organizers) to provide recommendations and feedback on events to determine areas that require improvement. Evaluates success of promotional/advertising campaigns/events.
- Evaluates advertising, promotional, and public relations proposals received from outside organizations, or through Metrolinx’s creative agency, to determine the appropriateness and benefit to customers and reports results and findings, with options/recommendations, to the Brand Manager.
- Assists the Manager to commission, supervise and monitor the work of media vendors such as designers, printers, agencies, consultants as required by the work of the department.
- Provides corporate representation on advertising, marketing and special project committees as required.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Knowledge of marketing management and advertising principles normally attained through completion of a 2 to 3-year community college or university program in marketing or any combination of education, training, and experienced deemed equivalent. The successful candidate must complete environmental, safety and any other training, as required by corporate policy
- Minimum four (4) years’ experience in marketing and advertising, providing a solid background in the administration and communication of informational, promotional, and advertising material, including:
- Demonstrating an understanding of how value is formulated, (i.e., advertising value equivalency (AVE), value in kind, ROI) in partnership activities
- Developing, planning, coordinating, executing, and managing promotional and advertising campaigns, initiatives and special events cost effectively and to tight deadlines, including organizing logistical arrangements, resources, and services
- Maintaining partner relationships with advertising and media buying agencies, printers and promotional item suppliers to ensure brand alignment and consistency across all channels
- Strong working knowledge of media planning, buying procedures and research skills. Practical experience is an asset
- Retail marketing experience will be considered an asset
- Good knowledge of marketing research techniques and economic principles and application as well as, production in various advertising and marketing mediums (e.g. print, broadcast media, social media, digital, community events/displays)
- Strong analytical organizational and time management skills
- Good interpersonal, diplomacy and relationship management abilities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficient in the use of word processing computer applications
