Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. is a private 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that partners with the City of Santa Monica to oversee services and operations in the downtown district. It manages the Property-based Business Assessment District bounded by Ocean Avenue, Wilshire Boulevard, Lincoln Boulevard, and the Santa Monica Freeway. Team members support a dynamic urban environment that serves residents, businesses, and visitors through strategic programming, marketing, and community engagement.
Role Description
The Senior Marketing Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Santa Monica, CA, responsible for leading marketing, branding, and communications for Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. This role champions the core ingredients that make Downtown Santa Monica a destination people want to visit, work in, and invest in, including:
- A strong, consistent identity and wayfinding system
- A diverse, complementary mix of retail, dining, and entertainment
- Clean, safe, and welcoming streets and public spaces
- Regular activations, events, and programming that draw repeat foot traffic
- Active, well-maintained public realm and streetscape (lighting, landscaping, seating, signage)
- Data-driven storytelling and advocacy that demonstrates the district’s economic and cultural impact
- Collaborative partnerships across property owners, government, and community stakeholders
DTSM’s brand
- Serves as the organization’s chief brand authority, stewarding narrative consistency from the boardroom to the street level
- Stewards a cohesive brand identity by creating high-quality assets including signage, marketing materials, DTSM corporate identity, reports, etc.
- Leads and creates digital strategy, including website, social, video production, and ad campaigns
- Lead the development and ongoing evolution of the organization’s brand strategy, positioning platform, and messaging framework
- Evaluate, brief, and manage agency and creative vendor relationships; lead RFP processes for major brand engagements
- Champion brand excellence across internal teams — serving as the final arbiter on brand application questions
- Collaborate with events and community engagement efforts to ensure the brand is lived — not just marketed.

Skills & Experience
- Experience with, or strong working knowledge of:
- Social media strategy and analytics
- Content distribution expertise spanning owned, earned, and paid digital channels
- Advertising and media buying
- Website and SEO management
- Analysis and publishing tools such as: Facebook Insights, Google Analytics, Google Search
- Console, Sprout Social, Later
- CRMs, marketing automation, and project management software (experience with Mailchimp and HubSpot a plus)
- Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts, Advertising, Marketing, Public Relations, or similar fields
- At least 8-10 years’ experience in marketing/communications
- Flexibility and willingness to occasionally work irregular hours, nights, and weekends in support of District programs, events, and promotions
Annual Compensation
$105,000 – $115,000 DOE
Full-time in-office exempt position (not eligible for overtime).
