Role Overview
The Business Development Representative is responsible for identifying, developing, and qualifying new business opportunities that expand Wilson Lumber Company’s market presence and support profitable sales growth. This role leads business development efforts across North Alabama while also developing Commercial and Multifamily opportunities throughout the Southeast. The Business Development Representative is expected to actively build relationships with prospective customers, contractors, developers, general contractors, architects, property owners, and other key industry partners who can create meaningful sales opportunities for Wilson Lumber. This is a field-focused, growth-oriented position based in Huntsville, Alabama.
What You Will Do
Lead proactive business development and prospecting efforts throughout North Alabama, identifying and pursuing Commercial and Multifamily opportunities throughout the Southeast. Build and maintain a prioritized target-account and target-project pipeline, research markets and decision-makers, and develop relationships with builders, contractors, developers, and other industry influencers. Qualify prospective customers and projects based on revenue potential, product fit, geography, and strategic value, and coordinate with Sales Management and other departments to establish pursuit strategies. Support opportunities through initial discovery, qualification, quoting, relationship development, and first-order conversion, ensuring qualified opportunities are transitioned effectively for long-term account management.
Why It Might Be a Fit
This role requires demonstrated success in prospecting, business development, outside sales, or new-account acquisition, with a strong ability to initiate relationships with new prospects and decision-makers. Candidates should have a strong understanding of construction, building materials, or related industries, with Commercial and/or Multifamily construction knowledge strongly preferred. The position demands self-direction, comfort spending significant time prospecting, and the ability to manage a geographically dispersed pipeline. Building-materials or construction-industry experience and demonstrated experience generating new business rather than solely managing an existing customer base are strongly preferred.
