Data Science Manager – Logistics Operations

We are looking for a Data Science Manager to lead technical engagements with multiple business units and manage a team of Data Scientists. The ideal candidate will have experience with leading technical Data Science developments, influencing senior stakeholders, and coaching/mentoring others.

Requirements

  • Owning technical domain and leading technical engagements with multiple business units
  • Line managing Data Scientists and mentoring/coaching the wider team
  • Helping define strategic direction of the team
  • Translating ambiguous business challenges into data science problems and applications
  • Managing, guiding and mentoring the team in their daily work
  • Communicating complex solutions to non-experts
  • Working end-to-end on Data Science developments
  • Scientifically analysing and evaluating the effectiveness of different approaches
  • Building mathematical models on top of big data architectures
  • Promoting data science across Tesco and the external Data Science community
  • Specialist knowledge of a technical Data Science domain (Operations Research and Simulations, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Forecasting, NLP, Statistics)
  • Experience with different programming languages (Java, Python, Scala, Go)
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders on technical topics
  • Experience of leading highly technical Data Science developments involving multiple stakeholders
  • Experience of coaching/mentoring others in technical approaches
  • Experience of partnering with technology teams to productionize developments and roll out at scale
