Role Overview
The 3 Month Term Communications Manager will plan, coordinate, and implement communications and public relations strategies for the City of Merritt. The ideal candidate will have experience in communications/public engagement and a minimum of 2 years of experience in a government setting.
What You Will Do
The Communications Manager will research, coordinate, write, edit, and produce a wide variety of internal/external communications, assist the Director of Community Engagement, and develop a public engagement/communications ‘tool kit’ and templates.

Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a communications/public engagement position in a government setting
- Knowledge of project management principles
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- An understanding of key issues and requirements for communication in a local government context
- Strong speaking, writing, and editing skills
- A strong understanding of digital communication strategies and fluency with core social media channels
- Demonstrated success in the development of participatory models of engagement using online resources, discussion forums, and social media initiatives
- Strong graphic design skills
- Ability to track work with precision and produce clear, compelling, effective reports
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
