Role Overview
Join a team of highly qualified professionals working on the understanding and modeling of ballistic phenomena. Study the role of the microstructure of armor steels and projectiles in the damage mechanisms observed during a ballistic impact.
What You Will Do
Carry out a bibliographic study, study the microstructure of the target material and projectile, and perform numerical simulations to understand the microstructural parameters controlling the type of rupture and damage.
Why It Might Be a Fit
You will work on problems combining physical understanding, testing, and calculation, and have the opportunity to contribute to the design of passive protection systems more efficient.
Requirements
- Techniques: Mechanics of materials, material resistance and dynamics of structures
- Dynamic behavior, plasticity, damage and rupture of metallic materials
- Numerical simulation by finite elements, ideally in explicit dynamics
- Knowledge of a calculation software such as LS-DYNA, Abaqus/Explicit, Ansys Autodyn or equivalent
- Notions in terminal ballistics or rapid dynamics appreciated
- Data processing and analysis tools, for example Excel, Python or MATLAB
- Scientific rigor and critical spirit
- Autonomy, technical curiosity and proactivity
- Taste for simulation, experimentation and analysis of complex physical phenomena
- Capacity for synthesis and quality of communication
