Data Scientist, Sales & Cargo Analytics

Role Overview

As a Data Scientist at WestJet, you will help develop and grow our Sales and Cargo partnerships through technology, data, and applications, and play a central role in our data transformation journey.

You will turn business problems into insights, automate and simplify data engineering processes, and design with the end user in mind.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
• Understanding of database management systems, data warehousing, online analytical processing (OLAP) and ETL (extract, transform, load) framework
• Strong proficiency in SQL and Python or R, plus experience with tools such as Snowflake, Shiny, Streamlit, and VBA
• Familiarity with: Supporting libraries such as Selenium and Scikit learn, Visualization tools such as Tableau or PowerBI, Version control systems such as Git
• Demonstrated debugging and testing skills during development
• Excellent communication and presentation skills and a unique ability to bridge the communication gap between executive and front-line audiences.
• Highly motivated, organized with the ability to work autonomously and within a team
• Airline industry experience considered an asset
• Solid understanding of the underlying theory and principles of data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence is considered an asset
