Role Description The Cloud FinOps Analyst / Cloud Cost Analyst / FinOps Engineer is a remote role focused on optimizing cloud spend and improving financial visibility across cloud environments. Day-to-day responsibilities include analyzing cloud usage and billing data, developing cost allocation and tagging strategies, and identifying opportunities for optimization across compute, storage, and database services. The role partners with engineering, finance, and operations teams to create dashboards, reports, and forecasts, and to implement policies that balance performance, reliability, and cost. The analyst will also troubleshoot cost anomalies, support budget planning, and document best practices for cloud financial management.
Qualifications
- Strong analytical skills for interpreting usage, billing, and performance data, and making data-driven recommendations.
- Experience with troubleshooting cloud cost anomalies, configuration issues, and usage patterns that drive unexpected spend.
- Knowledge of cloud computing concepts and services (e.g., IaaS, PaaS, SaaS; compute, storage, networking) across major providers such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Familiarity with databases and data modeling to query and aggregate cost and utilization data for reporting and dashboards.
- Understanding of software development and DevOps practices to collaborate with engineering teams on cost-aware architectures and CI/CD workflows.
- Experience with cloud cost management tools or native billing consoles (e.g., AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, GCP Billing).
- Ability to communicate complex technical and financial concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently in a remote, collaborative environment.
- Prior experience in FinOps, cloud operations, or financial analysis is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
