About Business Wizards
Business Wizards provides flexible contracts, compliance, and regulatory support to organizations that need specialized expertise and additional capacity. We help clients address ongoing needs and project-specific demands without the overhead of additional full-time staff.
About the Role
We are seeking a Business Development Consultant to help grow our commercial client base. The ideal candidate understands the international development sector, the government contracting (GovCon) ecosystem, and the needs of U.S. small businesses—and can translate that knowledge into new consulting engagements.
This role focuses on selling Business Wizards’ services directly to businesses and organizations, including government contractors and international development firms. It does not involve pursuing federal contracts, managing federal capture, or responding to government solicitations.
We are looking for someone who can identify opportunities, build relationships with decision-makers, and help convert qualified prospects into paying clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a focused commercial business development plan aligned with Business Wizards’ services and capacity.
- Identify prospective clients, including U.S. small businesses, government contractors, international development firms, nonprofits, and growing professional services companies.
- Reach decision-makers responsible for contracts, compliance, operations, and executive management through targeted outreach, introductions, and networking.
- Lead initial prospect conversations to understand business needs, assess fit, and identify opportunities for ongoing or project-based support.
- Clearly communicate the value of outsourced expertise, flexible support, and additional capacity during periods of increased demand.
- Collaborate with the Principal Consultant to develop tailored proposals, scopes of work, and pricing recommendations.
- Manage follow-up and support commercial negotiations through engagement execution.
- Build referral relationships with complementary service providers, industry associations, and small business support organizations.
- Maintain an organized pipeline documenting prospects, activity, opportunity value, next steps, and expected timing.
- Provide practical feedback on service positioning, buyer needs, and barriers to closing business.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated success in B2B business development, preferably selling consulting or professional services.
- Familiarity with international development organizations, the GovCon industry, and U.S. small businesses.
- Ability to distinguish between selling services to government contractors and pursuing contracts directly with the federal government.
- Experience generating qualified leads and advancing opportunities from initial outreach to signed engagements.
- Strong relationship-building, consultative selling, writing, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize realistic opportunities, and maintain consistent follow-through.
- Comfort working directly with a small business owner to refine positioning and support growth.
Preferred Qualifications
- An established network within international development, government contracting, or the U.S. small business community.
- Familiarity with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs), chambers of commerce, and small business associations.
- Experience selling outsourced contracts, compliance, regulatory, or operational support.
- Experience helping a boutique consulting firm build a repeatable commercial sales process.
- Familiarity with CRM tools and practical pipeline reporting.
What Success Looks Like
- Success will be measured by the quality of qualified opportunities, productive conversations with decision-makers, proposal conversion, signed engagements, and revenue generated. Activity metrics will support these outcomes, but results matter more than the volume of outreach.
