Financial Planning & Analysis Associate, CFO Advisory

Remote (Within 60 miles of Nashville-based required) · Part-time to Full-time

Company Description

Iris Financial Group Inc., based in Nashville, is a comprehensive business services firm specializing in outsourced accounting, financial reporting, and CFO advisory services for growing organizations. Our team is highly experienced with QuickBooks Online and supports business owners from day-to-day bookkeeping through strategic financial planning. Work is performed virtually, allowing us to deliver responsive, high-quality service to clients regardless of location. Iris Financial is committed to first-class client service, long-term relationships, and operating with quality and integrity as a trusted business advisor.

Role Description

The FP&A Associate will work directly with our Director of Financial Services in the CFO Advisory department, taking ownership of the financial planning and analysis work that supports our clients’ decision-making. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to build budgets and forecasts, not just organize them. You’ll take projects from raw QuickBooks data to finished client-ready deliverables, freeing the Director to focus on advisory conversations and strategy. As you grow, you’ll take on more client-facing responsibility and ownership of your own portfolio of engagements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and 13-week cash flow forecasts for small and mid-sized business clients
  • Prepare monthly budget-vs-actual and variance analysis, flagging trends and explaining the “why” behind the numbers
  • Develop financial models for client decisions such as hiring, pricing, expansion, financing, and capital purchases
  • Prepare KPI dashboards and management reporting packages tailored to each client’s industry
  • Draft financial summaries, presentation decks, and talking points for client advisory meetings
  • Pull, clean, and gather data from QuickBooks Online and other client systems to support analysis
  • Partner with the bookkeeping team to ensure underlying financials are accurate and close-ready before analysis begins
  • Track deliverables and deadlines across multiple client engagements and proactively flag risks or gaps
  • Identify opportunities to standardize templates, models, and processes so our FP&A work scales efficiently

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1–3 years of experience in FP&A, financial analysis, accounting, or a related role (public accounting, outsourced CFO, or small business finance experience is a plus)
  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills, including building three-statement models, forecasts, and pivot tables from scratch
  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks Online and how financial statements tie together
  • Solid understanding of accrual accounting, cash flow, and core financial statements
  • Ability to turn numbers into clear, plain-English insights for business owners who aren’t finance experts
  • Self-starter who can take a loosely defined request and run with it with minimal hand-holding
  • Strong organization and time management across multiple clients in a remote environment
  • High integrity and discretion with confidential financial and client information
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field, or equivalent experience

Preferred

  • Experience with forecasting or reporting tools (Fathom, LivePlan, Jirav, Syft, or similar)
  • Experience supporting multiple small business clients across different industries
  • Interest in growing toward a senior analyst or client advisory role
