JC Porter is partnering with a fast-growing technology company to hire a Senior Financial Analyst. Our client is looking for an expert financial modeler to build the core models the company runs on — from a blank workbook to the tools leadership uses to make decisions.
This is a hands-on, individual-contributor role with no direct reports. The successful candidate will own budgeting, forecasting, FP&A and variance analysis end to end, working directly with the CFO and executive team. It’s a rare chance to build a finance function’s models from first principles and see them shape a company in a high-growth industry.
What you’ll do
- Build the company’s financial models from the ground up. Design and construct integrated models — three-statement (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow), operating, and capital models — from first principles.
- Model the business’s key drivers. Capture what matters: capital projects and build schedules, capex, operating costs, customer contracts and pricing, utilization ramps, depreciation, and financing structures.
- Own the annual budget. Build the budgeting framework and process, partner with department leaders to gather inputs, and consolidate a company-wide operating and capital budget.
- Lead forecasting. Create rolling forecasts for revenue, operating expenses, capex, headcount and cash, and update them as the business changes.
- Run variance analysis. Compare actuals to budget and forecast each month, explain the drivers, and turn findings into clear recommendations.
- Support FP&A and decision-making. Build scenario, sensitivity and return analyses (IRR, NPV, payback) for new projects, customer deals, and investment decisions.
- Support capital raising. Provide models and analysis for debt and equity financing, lender and investor materials, and board reporting.
- Set the standard. Establish modeling conventions, documentation, and controls so models are accurate, auditable and easy for others to use.
- Report KPIs. Define and track the key metrics leadership uses to run the business.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in FP&A, corporate finance, investment banking, private equity, or project finance.
- Expert-level financial modeling, required. A proven track record of building complex, integrated models from a blank sheet — not just maintaining existing ones. Candidates should be prepared to walk the hiring team through models they have built.
- Deep experience with budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
- Strong grasp of accounting and how the three financial statements connect.
- Ability to work independently and turn ambiguity into structure in a fast-moving, early-stage environment.
- Clear communicator who can explain complex models to executives and non-finance partners.
Nice to have
- Experience in capital-intensive industries such as infrastructure, energy, utilities, or real estate.
- Project finance or infrastructure modeling experience (construction draws, debt sizing, DSCR, waterfalls).
- Experience at a startup or high-growth company.
- Familiarity with FP&A or planning tools (e.g., Adaptive, Anaplan, Pigment) and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite).
- CFA, CPA, or MBA.
Location & work arrangement
This is a hybrid role based at our client’s office just north of downtown Denver, Colorado. The selected candidate must be able to work on-site 1–2 days per week, with the rest remote. Candidates should live within commuting distance of Denver.
Compensation & benefits
- Base salary: $170,000–$195,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
- Annual bonus based on company and individual performance.
- Equity in a high-growth company.
- Full Benefits: e.g., medical, dental and vision insurance; 401(k); paid time off; parental leave.
