Financial Planning Analyst

Based in Reston, Virginia, we are a financial planning and investment advisory firm serving high net worth and Fortune 500 corporate sponsored financial planning clients.

We are seeking a motivated, well-organized, detail-oriented candidate to join our team as a Financial Planning Analyst. This is an ideal role for someone who loves working with numbers, data, and financial modeling ‚Äî and who wants to focus on the analytical craft of financial planning without being in front of clients. You’ll work behind the scenes, building the plans and analyses that our wealth advisors bring to their clients. Prior coursework and/or work experience with financial planning and tax is a plus. No selling, no client meetings required.

The ideal candidate is proficient with financial and tax concepts, enjoys digging into client data to build accurate and insightful analyses, has strong attention to detail, and can juggle multiple deadlines. Excel proficiency and comfort working with numbers all day are a must. In return, we offer a friendly, collaborative atmosphere of professionals with a wealth of knowledge and experience.

Specific responsibilities at Mason include:

  • Build comprehensive, customized financial plans for high-net-worth individuals and families by analyzing client data, internal proprietary data, and planning software outputs.
  • Run and interpret financial modeling scenarios (retirement projections, cash flow, tax planning, estate planning) in support of wealth advisors.
  • Prepare planning deliverables, illustrations, and supporting analysis for advisors to review and present to clients.
  • Opportunity to join our Tax Team during Tax Season for at least 50% of the week as a tax preparer. Prepare both Federal and State individual income tax returns. No tax preparation experience required.
  • Perform other analytical tasks as needed, such as estate plan diagrams and equity summaries.

Qualifications (necessary skills and experience required)

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university;
    major in financial planning, finance, or accounting preferred
  • CFP, CPA, or EA coursework a plus, but not required ‚Äî this is a non-client-facing, non-advisor-track role
  • 1+ years of experience in financial planning, wealth management, or tax analysis preferred;
    experience with high-net-worth client data a plus
  • Experience with individual income tax preferred
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort working independently with large sets of financial data
  • No FINRA licensing required
  • Experience with comprehensive financial planning software packages (eMoney preferred), tax modeling software (Holistiplan or BNA Income Tax Planner preferred), tax preparation software, proficiency with Excel, and data visualization tools a plus
