Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on data and business intelligence leader to oversee a data team and advance enterprise data architecture, reporting, analytics, and development practices.

This role combines technical leadership, people management, and strategic planning. The successful candidate will work directly with the team on data pipelines, reports, dashboards, and data quality while establishing standards, developing staff, and ensuring reliable, scalable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop a data and business intelligence team.
  • Manage daily operations, workload prioritization, performance, and staff development.
  • Establish clear roles, expectations, accountability, and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance and contribute to cross-functional IT planning and decision-making.

Data Architecture and Technical Leadership

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership across Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.
  • Evaluate and improve data architecture to support scalability, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Guide the development of data warehouses, pipelines, workflows, semantic models, reports, and dashboards.
  • Apply enterprise best practices to data platform implementation, migration, and ongoing operations.

Development and Release Management

  • Establish standardized development, testing, deployment, and release-management processes.
  • Implement CI/CD, version control, deployment pipelines, and controlled promotion across development, test, and production environments.
  • Eliminate ad hoc production changes and establish documented processes for validation, approvals, releases, and rollbacks.

Reporting, Analytics, and Data Quality

  • Improve the accuracy, consistency, reliability, and governance of enterprise reporting.
  • Establish standards for report development, data validation, reconciliation, testing, and quality assurance.
  • Identify reporting defects, resolve root causes, and prevent recurring issues.
  • Develop a clear understanding of critical reports, data sources, dependencies, and business requirements.
  • Strengthen documentation, ownership, support processes, and collaboration with business stakeholders.

Governance and Collaboration

  • Establish appropriate data governance, access controls, development standards, and change-management practices.
  • Assess decentralized reporting and analytics activities, addressing risks associated with inconsistent standards, uncontrolled changes, and insufficient validation.
  • Balance business flexibility with enterprise security, reliability, and operational stability.
  • Collaborate with IT leadership, business teams, and external technical partners to align data solutions with organizational needs.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Significant experience in data engineering, business intelligence, analytics, or enterprise data management, with progression into technical or people leadership.
  • Recent, hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience gained within the past two to three years.
  • Strong Power BI expertise, including report development, semantic models, workspace management, deployment, and production support.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing CI/CD, version control, deployment pipelines, testing, and controlled production releases.
  • Strong knowledge of data pipelines, integration, data warehousing, and enterprise reporting architecture.
  • Experience evaluating and improving data architecture for scalability, security, performance, and maintainability.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, develop, and hold technical professionals accountable for quality and results.
