Financial Analyst II

Role Overview

The Finance department is looking for our next Financial Analyst II. This position performs advanced corporate accounting and financial reporting functions to support the City’s consolidated financial statements and assists with the management of accounting operations, financial systems, internal controls and regulatory compliance for the Corporate Accounting Section of the Finance Department.

What You Will Do

Provides accounting and support in the areas of planning, organizing, directing and control. Conducts confidential analysis and provides recommendations regarding accounting matters. Performs specialized Corporate accounting functions in accordance with professional standards and generally accepted accounting practices.

Why It Might Be a Fit

We are looking for a degree in related discipline plus completion of a professional Canadian accounting designation; i.e. CPA. Four to six year’s progressively responsible experience in financial management analysis and reporting.

Requirements

• Degree in related discipline plus completion of a professional Canadian accounting designation; i.e. CPA
• Four to six year’s progressively responsible experience in financial management analysis and reporting
• Considerable knowledge of budgeting and financial systems and procedures, financial research and analysis techniques
• Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and finance administration
• Considerable knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards
• Knowledge of business process analysis and system design and implementation
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of civic staff, including senior administration and elected officials
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including the preparation and presentation of complex financial and technical reports
• Ability to problem solve through consensus, stakeholder involvement and dialogue
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment
• Considerable skill in financial research and analysis, including the ability to apply research and evaluation techniques
