Director, Business Development

Role Overview

The Director, Business Development will lead Aecon’s expansion in the United States, driving growth across the heavy civil infrastructure sector. This role is accountable for building and executing pursuit strategies to secure large-scale, complex projects through early positioning, strategic partnerships, and disciplined capture management.

What You Will Do

Lead the development and execution of U.S. market growth strategy, targeting priority heavy civil sectors including bridges, highways, transit systems, and water infrastructure. Identify, shape, and pursue major infrastructure opportunities, focusing on $300M–$2B+ projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or related field (MBA preferred)
  • Minimum 12 years of progressive experience in business development, including leadership roles within heavy civil infrastructure
  • Ability to translate market insights into actionable growth strategies and measurable outcomes
  • Strong understanding of capital markets, project finance, and commercial structuring in large-scale infrastructure projects
  • Ability to represent Aecon at the highest levels with professionalism, credibility, and strategic insight
  • Has a strong network and experience in the U.S. infrastructure market
  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing the competing objectives of many external and internal stakeholders
  • Ability to deal with uncertainty, changing and multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Willingness to travel across the U.S. and to Canada as required
  • Experience in Alternative delivery model projects
