This is the operational software for refunding orders, underwriting loans, moderating content, managing marketplaces, rolling out new features, onboarding employees, analyzing transactions, providing customer support…the list is nearly endless. For most companies, building and maintaining all of these tools demands a lot of engineering time—scarce, expensive resources better put to use on customer-facing products.
At Retool, we’re designing a new type of development environment that makes it dramatically faster and easier to build all of this software. Retool unifies the ease of visual programming with the power of code, while abstracting away the tedious and repetitive tasks of development. We believe that the future of software development lies in being a force multiplier for developers and technical builders, helping them move considerably faster and build a lot more software. It’s akin to a new version of Visual Basic, HyperCard, or Flash—with a bit of Figma and some future-of-programming vibes thrown on top. Today, our customers span from small startups building their first operational tools, to Fortune 500 companies building mission-critical apps for thousands of users across their business.
WHY WE’RE LOOKING FOR YOU:
Last year we built a small sales team and grew our revenue 3x. We’ve learned a lot, iterated rapidly on our process and approach, and added many customers to the Retool community. We’ve also laid the foundation for our outbound motion with new systems, workflows, and strategies over the past quarter and are looking for a Business Development Manager to continue growing and enabling our BDR team.
Our revenue and business goals are aggressive, and we’re laser-focused on scaling our hiring, our processes, and our team to support these goals. The problems Retool solves are varied, and the customers we work with span every vertical and hundreds of use cases. We’re looking for a leader who can build and scale a world-class BDR team to help us further accelerate our growth this year and beyond.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
You’ll be an integral part of the Sales leadership team and own the process for generating qualified outbound opportunities. You’ll lead a team of highly motivated Business Development Representatives and focus on coaching and developing the team, refining and building on our outbound strategy, and partnering cross-functionally to identify additional opportunities for pipeline generation. You’ll bring purpose and drive to the team while coaching them in becoming best-in-class BDRs.

In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with our Sales, Marketing, Recruiting, and Operations teams to shape the vision and direction of business development at Retool. And, of course, you’ll be working with, and managing, the growing BDR team.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL
- Own Retool’s outbounding strategy, identify areas for improvement in our approach, and build new messaging and workflows to ensure the team is properly trained/equipped to successfully perform against our goals.
- Analyze team activity and performance data to find opportunities to improve qualification and success rates with new tactics, tools, and campaigns.
- Determine staffing levels to support annual goals, recruit new BDRs, and lead the recruiting process to shape and grow the team.
- Motivate individuals and the team to exceed targets through coaching and mentorship.
- Accurately forecast and report on the state of your business to guide focus across Sales Development, Marketing, and Success.
- Stay close to content and product launches at Retool, and regularly update outbound messaging and tactics to reflect our expanding value proposition.
