Director of Business Development

Role Overview

The Director of Business Development will own new business growth, building a book of business by identifying organizations to work with, opening conversations with their leaders, and turning those conversations into qualified opportunities. The role involves owning the sales process for every opportunity that comes to us through referrals, partners, RFPs, our website, and marketing.

What You Will Do

The Director of Business Development will build their own book of business, own the inbound sales process, write and own proposals, RFP responses, and presentations, and own every deal through to a strong start.

Why It Might Be a Fit

The ideal candidate will have a track record of opportunities they personally sourced and closed, experience running the full sales cycle on services engagements of $100,000 to $500,000, and strong proposal writing skills.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in B2B sales, including 3+ years in new business roles at a digital agency, consultancy or technology services firm.
  • A track record of opportunities you personally sourced and closed, with numbers to show it.
  • Experience running the full sales cycle on services engagements of $100,000 to $500,000, including personally closing multiple deals of $150,000 or more with executive buyers.
  • You’ve sold web design and development or comparable digital services, and you understand how these projects are scoped, built, and priced well enough to lead discovery and spot a risky scope.
  • Naturally curious and consultative; you uncover a client’s goals, pain points, budget, and decision process before proposing a solution, and you turn conversations into relationships and relationships into opportunities.
  • Strong proposal writer; you have written winning proposals and RFP responses yourself.
  • Organized and disciplined about pipeline and follow-through.

Benefits

  • Base salary of $100,000 – $125,000
  • Commission with on-target earnings of $165,000 – $205,000
  • Health & Dental insurance (95% employer-paid)
  • Company-sponsored 401(k) plan with employer match
  • Paid time off (15 days increasing to 20 after four years)
  • Holiday time off (~10 days per year)
  • Performance and compensation reviews annually
  • An annual customized training plan and time to study
