Health & Safety Manager – Tunnel & SEM

Role Overview

The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, technical expertise, and operational oversight to ensure the successful implementation of Health & Safety programs throughout all underground construction activities.

Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the project Health & Safety Management System, provide strategic Health & Safety leadership for tunnel fit out, SEM, shaft, excavation, underground support, and associated construction activities.

Requirements

• Degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive Health & Safety experience in heavy civil construction.
• Minimum 5 years of direct experience in tunneling, underground construction, Seqeuntial Ecavation Mining (SEM), mining, shaft construction, or major subway and transit infrastructure projects.
• Prior experience with Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) operations; shaft sinking and underground mining activities highly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience working with COR-certified Health & Safety Management Systems
• Extensive knowledge of Ontario OHSA and O. Reg 213/91 Construction Projects Regulations.
• Experience leading Health & Safety teams on large infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of underground construction risks, geotechnical hazards, ventilation systems, emergency response, and confined space management.
• Proven experience leading audits, inspections, investigations, and corrective action programs.
• Professional designation such as CRSP, or equivalent preferred.
• Tunnel Rescue, Mine Rescue, or Underground Emergency Response experience is considered a strong asset.
• Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and team development skills.
